Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken will deliver remarks at the launch of the Bureau of Global Health Security and Diplomacy on Tuesday, August 1, 2023 at 9:30 a.m. EDT in the Dean Acheson Auditorium at the Department of State. Secretary of Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra, USAID Administrator Samantha Power, and Ambassador Dr. John Nkengasong will also provide remarks during the event.
The new bureau, announced by Secretary Blinken in December 2022, will build on President Biden’s campaign commitment to prioritize global health security and diplomacy at the Department of State and ensure the Department is best positioned to advance U.S. interests in health security. This includes preventing, detecting, responding to, and controlling infectious diseases – not just COVID-19 and HIV/AIDS – but also other current and future health threats.
