Special Envoy for North Korean Human Rights Issues Julie Turner will travel to the Republic of Korea (ROK) from May 21-25, 2024.
In Seoul, Special Envoy Turner will participate in the Asian Leadership Conference and engage ROK government officials, civil society, and North Korean escapees. She will reinforce the U.S. commitment to addressing North Korea’s division of families by connecting with relatives of abductees, detainees, and un-repatriated POWs.
Additionally, across a series of speeches, meetings, and site visits, Ambassador Turner will speak to the inextricable links between the Democratic Peoples’s Republic of Korea’s (DPRK) human rights abuses and threats to international peace and security, highlight the need for greater supply chain due diligence, and draw attention to the plight of families of ROK citizens abducted and detained by the DPRK, as well as issues of family separation created by the DPRK’s policies.
